Hometown Event

April 11, 2020 is the Hometown Event for Suicide Awareness Prevention and Recovery. This year is the 3rd annual event put on by my close friend Devin Henry. The main factor that lead to doing this event is the loss of our dear classmates Anthony Sipple and Nathaniel Thomas. This event is a showcase of many local artists, including Devin, to raise money for the awareness of Suicide. Artists such as BeaverCreek and Matt Matheny also plan to perform at this year’s event. This event is supported heavily by many community members and local businesses. The money Devin raises is in memory of our classmates.

Personally, I have been to the event and plan to attend this years’ as well. I loved being able to support my friend’s music career while supporting a cause that is near and dear to my heart. The music is always amazing and gets everyone’s attention. It is a fun event to attend because not only are you supporting such a good cause, you get to join in fellowship with others who care about the cause. The best part about this event is the oncoming support from our community of Gallia County. Many locals as well as local businesses’ come together to support Devin in his efforts to make this a more talked about topic in our communities.

It’s people like Devin, who are positively shining a light on suicide prevention. This is also one of my personal missions as well. I think being able to continually show support for this issue shows that we will not forget about those we have lost. It also allows us to be more conscious about those around us. It is our job to attend events such as this one in order to get out the necessary information.
